Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3: Wilds has arrived, bringing raptors, Optimus Prime, and ancient ruins to the battle royale. Among the new ancient ruins areas on the island, you can find vault doors, typically hiding rare chests behind them. Unlike previous vaults, instead of needing a simple key, you need to solve a sometimes confusing puzzle, which can vary from vault to vault. Here's where you can find these new vaults and how to unlock each kind.

With the addition of the new vaults, there are two types scattered across the island. On the above map the red circles indicate the classic Wildcard Vaults that have been around for a few seasons--though there are several new ones this season. The blue circles show the new puzzle vaults, the solutions for which are below.

How to unlock Fortnite Vaults in Chapter 4 Season 3

There are three different types of vault doors that have been found around the island as part of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3: Wilds. Each type of vault door has its own specific puzzle solution.

The sacrifice doors require an item of high rarity.

The first kind is the sacrifice door. These vault doors have a glowing smoke coming out of them, and ask you to give them an item of high value. To unlock this vault door, you need to give an item of either matching rarity or higher. The glowing smoke indicates what the minimum rarity of the item needs to be, with blue, purple, and orange smoke appearing, depending on which vault door you find yourself in front of. That means you'll need to drop in a Rare, Epic, or Legendary weapon or item in order to open the vault.

The statue vaults require you to interact with the correct statue (left) to open it.

The second vault type features a statue puzzle. . These typically appear as small, standalone buildings, with a vault door and two statues on the sides of the building. To open the door, you need to select the correct statue. The vault door doesn't provide any tips and there doesn't seem to be a reliable way to pick correctly, but picking the wrong statue just spawns you into a rift, directly above the building. If you pick wrong, just float back down and activate the other statue.

The purple flame vault doors require you to extinguish a flame after finding another room, which shows the solution.

The third type of door is slightly more complicated. These doors are related to purple flaming braziers. In the same room, there are multiple flaming braziers, which you have the option to extinguish. Inside the same temple area, there will be another room that has the same type of brazier setup, but one of them will already be extinguished. You need to return to the main room and extinguish the flame in the matching location as the one that's out in the other room. Once you put the flame out, the vault door will open up.
