Cyberpunk stealth game

User Rating: 8 | Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Collector's Edition) PS4

I love cyberpunk setting but I had no expectations going into this experience. As with many games of this generation there are multiple ways to approach missions trough scouting, sneaking, hacking or throwing grenades and shooting everything in sight. However, unlike many such games it's clear that "stealth" approach is the "correct" one here with plenty of in game exp being rewarded for finishing missions in such fashion. As I like more calculated stye of play I naturally opted stealth. I manged to finish entire game, all its side-missions and all of the DLCs without killing a single soul while getting a golden achievement in the process. There is also an achievement for not triggering any alarms that I unfortunately missed but that might be something most would chase in their second playthrough.

The game itself was interesting, very well written with great voice-acting from vast majority of characters. The only noticeable misstep for me were Miller whose animations were poorly done - voice and movement ware weird and not in sync. Graphic is solid serving its purpose but nothing special there. Style and setting appealed to me greatly with many cyberpunk tropes used in clever ways. Augments are causing divide between humans and segregation being in full swing provided a great platform for an intriguing story and dozen of very interesting side-quest that were seamlessly integrated in the world of Deus-Ex. Most of the story is taking place in Prague which is serving as game hub while game is taking you to different places throughout.

I was a bit disappointed in a way how DLCs work. They are separate stories that, despite being intriguing, I didn't find particularly enjoyable as all my stuff from main game was taken away from me at the beginning of each one (there are three). Imagine feeling like a godlike spy that can remotely hack drones and robots, perform dual take-downs while being cloaked or using EMP projectiles on four enemies simultaneously at 15 meter range and then suddenly all that is stripped away from you when you begin two-hour long DLC. Which brings me to the topic of augments in the game. I mentioned some and there are plenty more both complimenting stealth or action based play. This is something that is core to this game alongside its gameplay and earning each augment feels rewarding as it enriches your experience of the game.

Story is interesting and the issues that are explored are very real even in real world. Lore is rather rich with many interesting characters to meet and plenty of "weird" things to explore. While game has multiple endings I managed to get the "best" one that offers some closure. However, the grand story that is clearly happening behind the curtains is far from being concluded which implies that the franchise will be continued. Few years later and no new game was announced which is a shame. In conclusion, this was a solid and enjoyable ride which I would recommend.
