With its late 2009 release approaching fast, DJ Hero has added another high-profile turntablist to its virtual roster. Today, Red Octane announced that DJ Jazzy Jeff will appear in the rhythm title, which is in development at another internal Activision studio, UK-based FreeStyle Games. He joins fellow vinyl-scratchers DJ Shadow, DJ AM, DJ Z-Trip, and the famed Grandmaster Flash (see below) in the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 title.
Born January 1965 in Philadelphia, DJ Jazzy Jeff (real name Jeffrey A. Townes) is most famous for being one-half of the 1980s-1990s hip-hop group DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, along with Will Smith. After Smith left in 1993 to start on the road to Hollywood stardom, DJ Jazzy Jeff went into producing, creating his own record label, a Touch of Jazz. He has released several solo works, including the albums The Magnificent (2002) and The Return of the Magnificent (2007).
In DJ Hero, DJ Jazzy Jeff will have his own setlist, including two exclusive mash-ups: Tears for Fears' "Shout" vs. Eric B. & Rakim's "Eric B. Is President" and LL Cool J's "Rock the Bells" vs. The Aranbee Pop Symphony Orchestra's "Bittersweet Symphony." All in all, DJ Hero will feature 100 individual songs in 80 all-new mixes previously unavailable to the public.
