Wii gets Netflix native app
Streaming video giant adds app to Virtual Marketplace; Wii subscriber base at 3 million.
Wii owners can toss their Netflix-streaming discs out the window today, as the streaming video giant has launched a dedicated app for the Nintendo Wii. 
Nintendo sent word today that a dedicated Netflix app is now available to download from the Virtual Marketplace. The Netflix channel is free to download, though content can be streamed only if the user is a paying Netflix subscriber. Previously, Netflix subscribers watching content on their televisions needed a disc (pictured) to do so.
Additionally, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said the Wii Netflix subscriber base currently sits at 3 million.
Today also marks the arrival of the dedicated Netflix app for the PlayStation 3. Announced last Friday, the app brings 1080i support, 5.1 channel surround sound, a search functionality, and subtitle support to Sony’s console.
The Xbox 360 has had a native Netflix app since the streaming service came to the system two years ago. However, Netflix for the Xbox 360 is primed for an upgrade when the Xbox Live fall dashboard update hits in the near future. Its enhanced features will include search and editable Netflix queues.
