Though the Wii has lagged behind competitors the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in last month's US hardware sales, it still remains the best-selling current-generation home console. And today, Nintendo provided new statistics having to do with the system's innovative controllers, the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk.

Nintendo has sold many, many of these.
Nintendo has sold many, many of these.

According to Nintendo, who sourced industry tracking group NPD, since the Wii launched in 2006, the company has sold over 65.3 million Wii Remotes and 52.9 million Wii Nunchuks. That equates to an average of 46,000 Wii Remotes sold per day.

Nintendo broke down the huge figure further, saying that 30.41 million Wii Remotes were included with the Wii hardware, and 12.92 million were sold with Wii Play, the best-selling game ever in the United States. Wii Remotes currently retail for $40.

In terms of color popularity with non-bundled Wii Remotes, Nintendo announced that it has sold 18.56 million white Wii Remotes, 2.44 million in black, 467,500 in pink, and 465,200 in blue.

The other half of Nintendo's innovative console is its nunchuk controller. And to date, Nintendo has sold 52.9 million nunchuks. The nunchuk currently retails for $20 and is available in both black and white. However, Nintendo did not announce the sales breakdown of both color offerings.

All statistics were sourced to the NPD group and only cover US retail sales through September.

The next Wii controller to hit the market will be the Wii Remote Plus, which will go on sale on November 7 priced at $40. That controller will be sold by itself and in the $50 FlingSmash bundle. It will also be bundled with every new Wii system, including the limited Mario anniversary bundles, beginning on November 7. The Wii Remote Plus combines the original Wii Remote with the MotionPlus add-on.
