Another excellent game that comes from Remedy.

User Rating: 9.5 | Alan Wake X360
As you probably know, Alan wake is a writer. He needs some vacation because he suffers from the writer's block. So, his wife and him decide to take some vacation in Cauldron Lake, when she gets kidnapped. Throughout the game, you will try to find her. You will get helped by your manager, Barry, as well as by few other characters. I have to say, the story is good but is really hard to understand at some times. By chance, there are some manuscript pages that you can find throughout the game that help you understanding it. I recommend you to search for them, and to read them all in the order.

In the game, there are also some coffee thermoses, TVs, radios and some other stuff that you can find, but they really are as useless as the feathers in Assassin's Creed. You can find some weapons caches that you can find that will help you a lot since you will not have too much ammo very often, except when you are close to a boss fight.

Speaking of weapons, you will use mainly your flashlight, which is used to remove the darkness over the enemies, and then and only then you will be able to kill them with your gun (handgun, shotgun, rifle, grenades, etc...).

The graphics look great, even for an old game. The music is very good. Everything in this game is about atmosphere, and the music fits perfectly with it. When you are in the woods and the music starts, you know that there is something coming, but you don't know where the enemies will come from. It is very stressful. Also, since you are a writer and not an athlete, you will not be able to run for long, so starting to run for your life is though since you will become breathless quite fast. You really have to use the objects and the light to your advantage.

Since I bought the game new, both dlcs were included (The Signal and the Writer). I would not pay much for them, but since it was free, I cannot complaint. They are ok, not more.

When starting a new game, there are only 2 modes available, normal and difficult. I played it on difficult. If you are a beginner or not very experienced, I strongly recommend you to play it on normal. If you search a lot for hidden objects, I would say that it may take up to 15-20 hours to finish it. Then, you unlock the Nightmare mode, in which you will be able to find some additional manuscript pages that were unavailable at the other 2 difficulty levels. I don't know it that is sufficient to tell you to replay the game though.

The only downside to this game is that every hidden items are shinning, even in the darkness. This removes a bit of the atmosphere when you see a thermos several feet away from you in the forest. Also, you will always know where to go since Alan will often tell you that you should try to do this or that.

If you have not played Alan Wake yet, run to the store and buy it now.
