A pretty decent game, but if you already have the pc version (which is free) theres no point to buying this.

If you already have this game for PC and your PC can run it smoothly, you probably wont want to get this game just because this isnt anywhere near as good as the PC version. Basically, when the game starts off, you are just a grunt that is still undergoing basic training. You start off doing an obstacle course working against the clock, then go onto basic rifleman training, then to MOUT training (teaches you about squadwork) and then finally onto your first mission.

This game is incredibly realistic, which is awesome. The coolest thing about this game is there is no crosshair so you have to rely on your ironsights or a bscopes to shoot like in real life. The guns are extremely realistic and look and sound pretty freakin good. WHen you undergo basic rifleman training they force you to hit like 30 out of 40 targets before you can go on. Eventually you go from just a rifleman "grunt" to special forces squad commander, hence the name rise of a soldier. The campaign is pretty nonlinear, you can jump around quite it. (for example, once your done with basic training you can either go on to grenadier or be a rifleman, then after awhile you can do more grenadier missions, or go on to sniper and then go back to being a grenadier). In singleplayer, you are the only person who can heal people in the entire squad, and if you get shot you can actually bleed to death if you dont do something about. When you start to bleed, you slowly lose more and more health, and when you heal yourself or a teammate, you dont actually recharge your health, you just stop yourself from bleeding which stops you from losing more health which is pretty sweet. There are two fireteams, alpha and bravo. you are part of alpha. The roles you can play as in this game are Rifleman, Grenadier, Automatic rifleman, Sniper, SF weapons sargent, and SF operation sargeant. When you use your gun's sights, it is actually wobbly and your sights kinda blur out, just like in real life which is pretty cool. And then the more heavily wounded you are the more "red" your screen turns, because obviously if you get shot you arent going to be able to see as well as before you got shot. if you are wounded or have just been sprinting, your sight is even more woblly. Also, with guns like a sniper rifle and an m249 SAW, you HAVE to go prone or deploy your bipod, or else your sight will be so wobbly you will barely be able to aim it. The funny thing i immediatly noticed when playing this game is when you open up your weapon inventory to switch weapons, and you highlight a frag grenade, its spelled "frog". lol. but anyway the 3 types of grenades, smoke, frags, and flashes are all really realistic. they all have insanely realistic sound effects, and the frag grenade has a blast radius of like 10 or 12 meters which is pretty cool. The game FORCES you to stay with your team and actually FORCES you to obey orders given to you by your squad leader or fireteam leader before you become a squad leader yourself. If you stray off from your team, the mission will actually fail. You can only take a few shots before going down, and thats the same with your squadmates. There is also plenty of dialogue between your squadmates and you. One of the biggest drawbacks to this game however, is the fact that each enemy has a small red dot on his head, to make it easier for you to see them. And yes, the enemy AI is really good. There is kind of an RPG aspect to this game, where after each mission you get these points to spend on raising things like your leadership skills, your healing skills, your rifleman skills, and many other things. This is probably the only game ive ever played that blends a first person shooter with an RPG, and it does a very nice job of it. And if you are under suppressive fire, that will make your character nervous so his sights will be wobbly. The guns are pretty ilmited, the only guns you can use are an m16 (for when you are a rifleman) an m16 with an m203 on it (when you play as grenadier) an M249 squad automatic weapon (SAW), for when your an automatic rifleman, either a 50 cal or an m24 for when your sniper, and a HIGHLY modifibale m4 for when you are special forces.

When you get into the special forces, you will have the ability to highly modify your m4 carbine. for example on the bottom you can either have a heatshield, m203 grenade launcher, or a bipod for extra stability. on the top there are 4 dif kinds of scopes and sights to choose from, including ironsights. you can choose for your gun to be in either arctic, black, or desert paint scheme, and you can choose to have a supressor on it or not. When you play online, sometimes you will be playing as friendly indignious forces, so you will be able to use 3 more guns than in single player. the AK47, the RPG, and the RPK. Just like the rpg element of the single player game, there is the same exact element to the online aspect of the game. However, instead of doing just a few missions then being able to choose a different role like say sniper, you have to gain points.

EXP points are the points you use to raise your stats. another kind of points, which are just called points, you use online to raise the number of squad positions you can do. for example, when you first start playing online, and you have 0 points, the only positions you can choose is rifleman or indiginous forces.some maps are SF maps, where you use SF guns and SF maps are the maps where you can play as indiginous forces. You get points after each round (on xbox live the play is split into rounds) and the number of points you get each round you get depends on how you performed that round. But, if you lose, no matter how well you performed, you will ALWAYS get less than 1000 points. if you win, you will usually get between 1500-4000 points depending on how you performed. For exmaple, to play as grenadier, you need like 10,000 points. to play as auto rifleman, you need like 30,000 points, for sniper like 60,000 points. To play as special forces on an SF map, you must have 100,000 points. until then, you can only play as indiginous forces on SF maps. The only bad thing about the online play is that in some servers it is really really really laggy. The online play also has quite a few bugs. like you can toss frags through closed doors, get underneath the map, etc.

But if you like INSANELY realistic, and /or slow paced military tactical shooters, this game is probably for you.
