Best Helo Arcade/Sim to date.

User Rating: 10 | Apache: Air Assault PS3
First of all, i've bought it for PC. but i've also played it in PS3 and its the same.

i'm reviewing this in here because obviously Gamespot doesnt know that the game is also available for PC. SHAME ON YOU GAMESPOT!

ok, to the point now.

there's not much to say other than that this is THE BEST helo simulation/Arcade to date. simple as that. everything is amazing and how it is supposed to be.

Graphics: Excellent. and it will not make you machine cry for a rest. perfectly optimized!

Gameplay: Amazing.
the best way to describe it is that its the closest example to Comanche and Ace Combat. more to Ace Combat i think.

yes you guessed it, you have endless ammo. but once the starting amount is depleted there is a reloading time needed to use them again. rockets for example, take a few seconds to reload, guided missiles on the other hand take some minutes.

Arcade mode (Training mode in game):
simple and fun without dumbing down the realism. just making it easy and accesible to simple people. the same stuff the made Ace Combat so famous and succesfull.

Simulation mode:
no you won't have to be an octopus or a real helo pilot to play it like that, its the same as the arcade mode but the controll of the helo is more difficult.
until you get the hang of it it will seem like the hardest thing to do but since you do it using the freeflight missions you will be a real ace.

hardcore sim fans might be a bit dissapointed. the game is very realistic generaly but there arent all these little things they love so much
like 1000 controll inputs needed to perform an action. there are no special controls and stuff like that to change weapons or lock a target etc. its simple, effective realistic and fun

Flight Physics:
i'm not a helo pilot but i asked one and he said that they are very very close to the real thing. he actualy liked it a lot.

Damage Model:
disabled tailrottor resulting in an uncontrolled spin...damaged engine resulting in torque loss and ultimately altitude loss and crash.
with 1 engine damaged you cant still stay on the air but you cant be agile and you gradualy loose altitude unless you are constantly pressing the throttle. it will hopefully give you a chance to land at the nearest LZ for repairs.
or you can become a fireball by a fuel tank hit.
that's all the damages i've taken so far. i'm guessing there are more.

Missions:
well designed with multiple objectives and in different scenarios with different pilots.
there's also a lot of action. as a relatively slow moving target flying in low altituded you get shot all the time.
by AA guns,RPGs,infantry, armored cars, trucks, bikes, boats, other helos etc. you have to try hard not to get shot.

overall, its almost perfect. at least for me. i've been waiting for a helo sim like that for many years!

Score: a perfect 10!
it absolutely deserves it! its the first sim game that deserves my money after many years.every single cent.

i hope Gaijin and Activision will continue this and expand it because right now its a bit small. and i'm looking forward to the sequel!
