Now Playing: Doctor Who - Series 11 Official Comic-Con Trailer | SDCC 2018

Whittaker is playing the 13th incarnation of the Doctor, and takes over from Peter Capaldi. She will be accompanied by three companions this time--Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill), and Graham (Bradley Walsh).

At the SDCC panel, Whittaker spoke about taking on this iconic role. "I knew obviously being the first female it was going to have some extra responsibility thrown it," she said, via Vulture. "But it's incredibly inclusive, and knowing the fans are all over the world, it's immediately felt like this huge Whovian family."

The show also has a new showrunner, with Broadchurch's Chris Chibnall taking over from Steven Moffat. At the panel, Chibnall described how the new season would be a great place for new fans to join the show. "This year is the perfect jumping-on point," he said. "That person in your life who has never watched Doctor Who, I want you to go out and recruit them. Sit them down for Jodie's first episode so you can go, 'See?!' There is no barrier to entry this year! It's a big, inclusive, mainstream, accessible series."
