At Sony's E3 2008 press conference, Insomniac's Brian Allgeier introduced a new entry in the Ratchet & Clank series: Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty. What makes the upcoming title so special isn't just that it will continue the story of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction--but that it will be a smaller game available on the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network for $14.99.

Allgeier impressed upon the audience that the aspects of R&C gameplay we've come to known and enjoy--heady action, mystery, and humor--will be evident in the next installment of the Future saga. However, it will focus more on platforming and puzzle-solving than before, and Allgeier believes it will require players to think more than they've needed to in the past.

It wouldn't be a Ratchet game without giant enemies.

Ratchet will also have new abilities at his disposal, including environmental manipulation by way of his wrench. There is also new "light and dark" gameplay taking place within a series of deep caverns, though we don't have many details to share at this point in time regarding these mechanics. Allgeier promises that not only will series veterans enjoy seeing the story continue, but that newcomers will also be able to enjoy what Quest for Booty offers.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty will be available this summer via the PlayStation Network for $14.99. We'll bring you more information as it develops.
