New map and co-op mode added.

2K and Turtle Rock Studios have detailed the next Evolve content update it is releasing as part of the "Shear Madness" event. Titled "Cataclysm," the new update will add a new map which features an orbital drill. This has been "altered into a map engulfed in hellfire and molten lava."

A press release explains further: "The sky has been consumed with embers, soot and smoke that could engulf the whole planet. Strangely enough alongside the hellfire, the planet seems to have taken some of the Hunters healing technology through this transformation.

"Once Hunts begin in the Cataclysm zone, both Hunters and Monsters will see the damaging hellfire meteors falling from the sky, leaving damage-dealing areas of effect in their wake, as well as Generyst infused meteors that will leave healing areas of effect for both the Hunters and Monsters on impact."

The Cataclysm content is available now in the general Hunt matchmaking and the co-operative matchmaking queue. Other features being added in include co-op versus AI matchmaking, which lets people team up and take on bots.

"It's the perfect place for practicing with a squad of friends and trying new hunter team and perk combinations. This is the first of two co-op specific updates coming during Shear Madness and lays the groundwork for an all-new co-op mode coming later this month," 2K said.

During the Shear Madness event 2K and Turtle Rock will offer new DLC for the five weeks in August.

Evolve went free-to-play on PC in July. The free PC version of the game is titled Evolve: Stage 2 and can be downloaded on Steam. The move to a free-to-play result in the game's player base increasing by a million in its first week.
