At a press event last week, Acclaim Entertainment released details on and gave out preliminary artwork for the next installment in its NBA Jam franchise.

NBA Jam 2004 will feature more than 300 players and all 29 of the current NBA teams. In addition to the players found on current NBA rosters, NBA Jam 2004 will include more than 60 of the NBA's greatest from the past 50 years in the legends tournament mode. Playing through the legends tournament will unlock players, arenas, and bonus footage that is said to include interviews with great NBA players from the past. The game will also include game modes such as exhibition, jam, create a player, and a variety of minigames.

The three-on-three basketball game will include signature moves for current NBA all-stars and legendary players like Tracy McGrady's 360 windmill, Michael Jordan's one-handed soaring dunk, Larry Bird's fadeaway jumper, Dominique Wilkins' tomahawk jam, and Bob Cousy's around-the-back layup. Acclaim also said that NBA Jam 2004 will include all the trademarks of a Jam game, including hot spots for big points, no rules, and, of course, the on-fire bonus.

NBA Jam 2004 is currently on schedule for release this October for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. Check back for more information on NBA Jam 2004 in the near future.
