Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito confirms that he's joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe "sooner than you think."

Thanks to his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Giancarlo Esposito reinvigorated his career with roles in Parish, The Boys, and Revolution. He also portrayed the villainous Moff Gideon for three seasons on The Mandalorian. Since then, Esposito has made no secret about his desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, potentially as Professor X in the X-Men reboot. Now, Esposito has confirmed that he has finally been cast in the MCU, but his role remains a mystery.

Via Collider, Esposito made the announcement on stage at CCXP Mexico. Esposito indicated that he will not be following in Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy's footsteps as Professor X. He also suggested that he will be playing a character who hasn't previously been portrayed in the Marvel movies or TV shows.

"I cannot promise you it’ll be Professor X, because here's what I think," said Esposito. "I think that there's something about being original. We've seen different versions of Professor X. Wouldn't you like to see me play a character in a Marvel movie who is original, and new, and fresh? So, mark my words: This will happen sooner than you think."

Assuming that Esposito is referring to a Marvel movie currently in production or post-production, there are only a handful of films that have been announced including Thunderbolts, Captain America: Brave New World, and The Fantastic Four. It's also possible that Esposito could appear on one of the Marvel TV shows like Daredevil: Born Again.

If Esposito is spotted on set during any of these projects, it might give away the surprise. For now, we can only speculate about which character he will play.
