Guild Wars 2's Third Expansion Is Called End Of Dragons, Launches In 2021

The eight-year-old MMO is also heading to Steam in November.

Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet recently held an anniversary livestream to mark the popular MMO's eighth birthday. A celebration wouldn't be complete without a few surprises, of course, so the studio used this opportunity to make two announcements. Firstly, Guild Wars 2's third expansion is titled End of Dragons and is launching in 2021, and secondly, the MMO is coming to Steam for the first time in November.

End of Dragons will transport players to the southern island region of Cantha. This is a new location for Guild Wars 2, but it's one longtime fans of the series will be familiar with after it was originally introduced in the first Guild Wars. Little is known about the expansion at this point, but you can expect a few intimidating dragon encounters when it launches in 2021.

Ahead of the third expansion's release, Guild Wars 2 is also coming to Steam in November. By logging in through Valve's storefront, you can play alongside your fellow Tyrians on the same maps and servers in North America and Europe. Whether you log in through Steam or the Guild Wars 2 launcher, everyone plays together, although there's no way to convert an existing Guild Wars 2 account into a Steam account and vice versa.

If you can't wait until November, ArenaNet is running a sale on Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire from now until September 4. You can grab the game and access to both expansions for 50% off by using the code ANNIVERSARY50 at checkout on the game's official site. By playing the Path of Fire expansion, you'll also receive a new ability for the Skimmer mount that lets you explore underwater environments for the first time.
