M2 D2 Movie Discovered

While playing D2 we discover a secret movie - a video from the original M2 version of the game.

As a few of you may remember, D2 developer, Warp, released a game called Real Sound 2 some time last year for the Sega Dreamcast in Japan. Since the game was 100 percent audio with no visuals, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if none of you bought it. However, it did have one thing to recommend it, and that was the D2 Shock demo. If you played through the demo's minigames, it would install a D2 shock game-save on your VMU. What this was good for no one knew. Now that we have the final version of D2 in our hands, we have discovered why.

Although there are different levels of success possible in the Shock demo, the game-save we had on our VMU unlocked a secret movie on disc 2 of D2 that revealed a CG-rendered movie that none of us had ever seen. In fact, after checking through Warp's home page, we learned that this is actually a movie scene from the cancelled M2 version of the game! (The M2 was a system from 3DO and Matsushita that was never released.) We'll be going back to the Shock demo for some more play time in the hopes that we can unlock some more funky stuff. If and when we do, we'll be back to report on it. In the meanwhile, stay tuned for the full D2 review coming soon.
