N64 Third Party Tidal Wave

Third-party licensees ready a bunch of new Nintendo 64 games for the holiday season and beyond.

Comments

This holiday season the Nintendo 64 will finally get a new crop of titles from third-party companies.

Acclaim will be bringing Probe's new soccer title, tentatively titled Ultra Soccer, out in time for the 1998 World Cup. Acclaim's Magic: The Gathering arcade game will also be getting a port on the Nintendo 64 system next year.

Conceptual Realities is continuing work on its game Jungle Bots.

Kemco's got Top Gear Rally and Twisted Edge Snowboarding, both developed by Boss Game Studios, but it is also concentrating on its first in-house game for the system. Titled Knife Edge, the sci-fi game is supposedly similar to Star Fox 64. It is not known whether this title is a revamped version of its Blade & Barrel/Ultra Combat title that has apparently disappeared.

Lego has been actively developing computer entertainment titles for a few years, and it's ready to release its first title, Lego Racers.

Maxis, makers of numerous sim titles, is reportedly still at work on a couple of games for Nintendo's 64-bit system. SimCity 64 and SimCopter are the first two, but other titles are also in the works. Electronic Arts, Maxis' new owner, tells GS News that the future of all Maxis titles are currently "being reviewed."

Midway's Hardwood Heroes will be making it out in time for Christmas, and this true five-on-five b-ball simulation will support multiplayer gameplay and signature dunks for the players.

Mindscape, after dumping its first N64 developed title, Monster Dunk, is apparently readying a 64-bit update of the classic Paperboy coin-op.

Mc O'River, Video System, and Paradigm Simulation are working on at least two more titles past their first, Aero Fighters Assault. A racing game and a flight sim, tentatively called Flights of the UN, reportedly make up their next two projects.

Ocean, despite problems with its Mission: Impossible title, is continuing to work on Nintendo 64 titles. The team that originally began work on the Mission: Impossible project has left the game, and the title is being finished by UK development house Infogrames. Its UK developer DID is working on a war simulation, under the title of the Electronic Battlefield of Tomorrow.
