Verdansk is gone but not forgotten.

The original Call of Duty: Warzone shuts down forever today, prompting goodbye posts from players and fans.

In November 2022, alongside the launch of Warzone 2.0, the original game was renamed Warzone Caldera. Back in June, Activision announced that Caldera would be permanently shut down on September 21. With the game's shutdown, all players' progress will be lost. None of the purchases in Warzone Caldera will carry over to Warzone 2.0, although those purchases are useable in other Call of Duty games, namely Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. It is unknown if either the Caldera or Verdansk maps will return in a future update to Warzone 2.0.

Fans have taken to social media, posting old clips and reminiscing about playing with friends. Reactions on the official Reddit ranged from appreciation and nostalgia to frustration with Warzone's current incarnation. Warzone's first map, Verdansk, is getting a lot of retroactive love.

Warzone (formerly Warzone 2.0) enters its sixth season on September 27. Season six brings a new battle pass, including Spawn skins and a Halloween event with different modes for each map. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is dropping on November 10, 2023. A multiplayer beta for the sequel will start in October.
