Rockstar Editor Is Shutting Down On PS4 and Xbox One, All Clips Will Be Deleted

Rockstar says the change will allow the developer to "support ongoing updates to these games on both platforms."

Rockstar Games announced today that Rockstar Editor will no longer be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles starting on February 20, and all user-uploaded clips will be deleted on that date.

First introduced in 2015, Rockstar Editor allows players to edit gameplay clips from Grand Theft Auto 5 & Grand Theft Auto Online and upload them to YouTube and the Rockstar Social Club, where they can be seen by other players. The developer says the program's removal from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles is necessary in order to "support ongoing updates to these games on both platforms."

A short FAQ was uploaded to the Rockstar website to explain the program's removal in more detail and help players preserve their gameplay clips. Players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S will remain unaffected, but those on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will likely want to download any clips they've uploaded via the video editing program before they're deleted on February 20.

Players who want to avoid losing their Rockstar Editor clips will want to follow these steps to preserve them:

  1. Open the Rockstar Editor
  2. Select Video Gallery
  3. Select the Project you want to export
  4. Select Upload to YouTube, then yes
    1. If no YouTube account has been linked to your Rockstar Games account, then select "Yes" to continue to link your accounts
    2. Follow instructions to link your YouTube account to your Rockstar Games account
    3. Return to game after linking the accounts
  5. If you agree to the sharing policy, select Upload
  6. Confirm your video title, then the video description, tagging, etc.

This will upload the clips in question to YouTube, where they can be enjoyed for years to come. Rockstar Games is currently in the process of developing the next entry in the GTA series: Grand Theft Auto 6.
