Today GodGames announced its upcoming first-person shooter sequel, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter. The game is a follow-up to GodGames' popular Serious Sam: The First Encounter, in which players assume the role of Sam "Serious" Stone, a hero who must travel back in time to ancient Egypt to save the world from an evil plot. The new game includes 12 large single-player levels split into three new episodes--South America, Babylon, and the Medieval Age. Players have 14 weapons at their disposal, three of which are new, and they must fight against hordes of enemies. One of the new weapons, a chainsaw, is depicted in the screenshots posted to the left.

"We here at Croteam are extremely pleased with how Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is coming along," said Roman Ribaric of Croteam. "This game expands all the things our fans loved about the first game: fast, frantic action, huge levels, tons of enemies, and a lighthearted, colorful feel."

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter will also include more than 20 multiplayer maps and a number of multiplayer options, including Serious warped deathmatch. Players can also join forces in cooperative play through all of the game's single-player levels. The game supports up to 16 players in six different multiplayer modes, and up to four players on a single computer in split-screen mode.

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is in development at Croteam, the Croatian game developer that created the first game, and it is scheduled for release in November for a retail price of $19.99. For more information, take a look at our full review of the first Serious Sam game.
