Spark signs with Sierra

After several tours of duty, the developers at Spark Unlimited are ready to leave the battlefields of World War II. No name or plot for the game has been revealed yet, but its new publisher has said it will see the Spark team (which developed Call of Duty: Finest Hour and consists of many veterans from the Medal of Honor series) try its hand at a game with a modern setting.

The game will be the first collaboration between Spark and Vivendi-owned Sierra Entertainment, which today announced that it is bringing the title to next-gen consoles. Details about plot and gameplay were not divulged, but the game will be based on a new intellectual property.

That news likely comes as a surprise to those who have been following news of the developer. In March, Atari announced that it had entered into "an exclusive agreement...for worldwide publishing rights across all media to all future titles developed by the award-winning creative team at Spark Unlimited."

Details of the first game from the Atari partnership were supposed to have been released in the spring, with the game itself arriving in stores this holiday season. Vivendi said it would give more details about its Spark title by the end of the year, with an expected 2007 shipping date for the project.

Neither Atari, Vivendi, nor Spark returned GameSpot's requests for comments as of press time.
