Star Trek: Tactical Assault E3 2006 Preshow Report

Star Trek: Tactical Assault is going where no Star Trek game has gone before--the DS and the PSP.

The PC has been the platform of choice for Star Trek games for years now, a trend that Bethesda and Quicksilver Software are hoping to offset with Star Trek: Tactical Assault for the Nintendo DS and Sony PlayStation Portable. This tactical space combat game is said to focus on ship-to-ship combat where you'll have to strategically maneuver your warship while making effective use of weapons and shields, all the while managing your limited energy resources to succeed.

Star Trek: Tactical Assault will take the action back to the Trek of yore--back when Kirk was seducing alien ladies across the universe and the Klingons were always getting up in everyone else's business. The game will feature two single-player campaigns, putting you in control of the Federation and the Klingon Empire, and each will feature a branching mission design with multiple outcomes. The game promises wireless two-player action where you can face off with an opponent, and it will additionally let you access the Romulan, Gorn, and Orion fleets. Though each of the five playable races will be powerful in its own right, they're also said to have unique strengths and weaknesses, which means that you'll need to employ drastically different tactics depending on which race you're playing as.

The very concept of Star Trek: Tactical Assault has us intrigued, and we're eager to learn more about the nuts and bolts of the combat and whether or not we can expect appearances by some of the classic Enterprise crew. Star Trek: Tactical Assault is currently set for a fall 2006 release on both the DS and PSP.
