"Support for the current Star Wars: Battlefront is not done."

Star Wars: Battlefront won't get any new Skirmish content, but players can expect ongoing support for the 2015 sci-fi shooter. The game's community manager, Mat Everett, wrote in the Battlefront forums (via Kotaku) that EA is not walking away from the game just yet.

"Our team is very much looking at recent bug reports and content requests still," he said. "Support for the current Star Wars: Battlefront is not done. While we will not be bringing more Skirmish content to the game, it doesn't mean nothing else is coming."

Battlefront already received four expansion packs: Outer Rim, Bespin, Death Star, and Rogue One: Scarif. These added new maps, weapons, characters, and modes, substantially growing the scope of the game over the course of 2016. It remains to be seen what kind of support Battlefront will receive going forward.

The next Battlefront game is currently in development and is slated to come out this fall. The game will have a single-player campaign and include content from multiple Star Wars eras. The first Battlefront only had content from the original Star Wars films and Rogue One, which is a prequel to Star Wars.

The Battlefront sequel is presumably coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. During an earnings call last night, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the game is even "bigger" than the 2015 original, featuring more locations and hero characters. It is being made by DICE, Motive Studios, and Criterion.

The original Battlefront was a big hit, though some people lamented that it did not offer a very deep experience, so it will be interesting to see how the second game shapes up. It has big shoes to fill, as the 2015 game shipped 14 million copies.
