VU Games has announced that SWAT 4 for the PC is off to the factory and will be ready to storm PCs April 4. The game was developed by Freedom Force and Tribes: Vengeance developer Irrational Games.

The tactical shooter challenges gamers to participate in one of law enforcement's most elite squads, the Special Weapons and Tactics unit, also known as SWAT. The game features authentic lethal and nonlethal weapons and sends gamers into lifelike situations, such as rescuing hostages and finding undercover agents who have lost contact with their superiors.

In the single-player mode, gamers will play as the squad sergeant, a transfer from LA nicknamed "Boss," who leads his squad through 14 missions. A multiplayer mode will pit SWAT team members against suspects in team-based combat across three modes: barricaded suspects, VIP escort, and rapid deployment.

VUG also announced that SWAT 4 has invaded the Web. The game's official Web site features information on the game, the range of weapons in the game, and the SWAT squad members. Fans can also download fan site kits, wallpapers, and IM icons, and they'll soon be able to download ringtones for their mobile phones.

Gamers looking to get right into the action can check out the game's 187MB single-player demo at GameSpot DLX.

SWAT 4 is rated "M" for Mature and has an SRP of $49.99. For more information on the game, head over to GameSpot's previous coverage.
