A new system update for the PS5 is here, Version 23.01-07.20.00, which brings a few improvements to the console.

It's a simple one, bringing three specific improvements to different areas of the system and the DualSense controller.

Here are the changes you'll find in the system software update on PS5:

  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
  • We've updated the DualSense Edge wireless controller device software to improve stability.

They're essentially all quite small things that should make your general experience on PS5 a bit smoother, and if you've been having any problems with your fancy Edge controller, hopefully that will be better now too.

The last big update introduced to the PS5 arrived at the beginning of March, adding in the often-requested integration of Discord. This update made it possible to connect your Discord account to your PSN account, and call with friends using Discord to chat with them there as opposed to PlayStation's built-in voice chat service.

The update also added VRR support at 1440p resolution, providing a smoother visual performance as long as you're using a VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 cable, and provided the game supports VRR.
