According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the Wii U represents the best value of all home consoles available today. The executive made the claim during a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, where he listed the reasons why he thinks you should upgrade to the new system.

"We convince them with the games," Fils-Aime said when asked how to spur people to upgrade to the new console. "So as an example, you can only play Mario Kart 8--this fabulous game that has sold millions of copies across the world--only on the Wii U because of the enhanced capabilities, the HD graphics, the new elements that we bring to bear for that particular game."

"For us the message is simple; you want to play these great games, you want to have these fantastic experiences, you have to upgrade to the Wii U" -- Reggie Fils-Aime

The same is true for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which launches this Sunday. Fils-Aime said that while you can still play Super Smash Bros. Melee or Brawl, the only way to experience Smash Bros. with high-definition graphics and with eight-player multiplayer is to buy the new game.

The Wii U's Amiibo support and value, relative to the competition, also represent key points of differentiation when shoppers are looking for a new console, Fils-Aime said.

"The good news, for us, is that we're presenting the best value right now in new home consoles," he explained. "$299, includes two games; it's a compelling proposition for consumers this holiday."

The two free games Fils-Aime is talking about are Super Mario 3D World and NintendoLand, which come bundled with the 32 GB base Wii U model.

"For us the message is simple; you want to play these great games, you want to have these fantastic experiences, you have to upgrade to the Wii U," he added.

By comparison, the Xbox One currently sells for $350, while the PlayStation 4 goes for $400. The Xbox One's value recently got a boost, as Microsoft cut the price by $50 and introduced a special bundle that comes with Assassin's Creed Unity and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag for $350.

On Black Friday, however, you'll be able to score even better deals on those machines, as various retailers will sell the Xbox One Assassin's Creed bundle for $330 and the PS4 bundle with copies of Grand Theft Auto V and The Last of Us for $400.
