Zenimax files to extend Prey trademark
Bethesda parent publisher moves to extend legal coverage of IP as fate of Prey 2 remains in question.
Zenimax Media has filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office to extend its trademark for the Prey intellectual property.
The company this month filed three separate applications covering television shows, online games, magazine, comic books, and feature films, among other things.
Asked what these filings may mean for the future of the Prey brand, a company representative declined to comment.
Zenimax originally picked up the Prey intellectual property in 2009.
Prey 2 remains in development at Human Head Studios, though Bethesda said a year ago this month that development on the project "has not progressed satisfactorily." Its current status is unknown, though a developer later commented that the project is in limbo.
Disclosure: GameSpot parent company CBS CEO Leslie Moonves is a Zenimax Media board member.
