Zynga Loses $226 Million, Plans to Close Studio in China
Social game developer's latest financial report filled with grim news and anemic growth.
Zynga, the makers of Farmville and one of the world’s largest mobile and social game developers, announced on Thursday that it lost nearly $225 million in 2014.
Total GAAP revenue for the full calendar year also fell 21 percent, down to $690 million. The company expects its losses will continue into 2015, with a loss of about $56 million during the January to March period.
Despite the grim news, Zynga’s chief executive Don Mattrick focused on the positives, stating that "monthly mobile customers [are] up 87 percent year over year.”
The company expects to launch between six and ten new games in 2015.
