The Euphoria engine in no way makes up for the **** ass camera angle.....

Before the demo came out on Xbox live and before buying the game I was extremely excited for this game. Finally a football game that with the realistic hits enabled by the Euphoria engine. I was getting disappointed with Madden so Backbreaker was going to be something new and exciting. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I was growing more skeptical of Backbreaker the closer it got to its store release. The camera angle looked like it was going to be extremely frustrating.....It was. Frankly, the camera angle single handedly destroys the game for me. In and of itself its not so bad, but the implications of it are far reaching and wildly frustrating. First off is switching players on defense. After I switched players I found myself disoriented. If the ball was not thrown or ran in my direction I usually took no part on any defensive plays. Not to mention there isn't a "Catch" button so interceptions are a matter of running in the flight path of the ball. Secondly is passing in general. Yes, I will admit that it is more "realistic." But its hard to read where the receivers are at because of a distortion in depth perception. Switching receivers is slow too which makes it extremely difficult to go through all your reads before getting sacked. My first 3 possessions of my first game on offense were first play interceptions. I might just suck but it was still extremely frustrating. The worst thing however about passing is rolling out. I'm unable to look down field while running towards the sidelines. Now this is unrealistic! In real life players, as well as any ordinary people, can look in another direction from the one there running. They can look to each side and the more talented among us can even look behind them while running. Backbreaker doesn't allow for such turning of the neck. The juking and hitting are really cool but if you don't know where the players are coming from its kind of hard to juke them.

I just wonder what the people testing the game were thinking when they were playing the final product. It was probably one of those cases were everyone thought it sucked but they kept reassuring themselves, afraid to admit it sucks because they didn't want anyone to take offense. Overall, this game is extremely frustrating. The computer wins you games when you win, not you. Madden 10 is more enjoyable; Madden 11 will probably be equally more enjoyable. Let's just hope for the day that someone makes a football game that combines all the good elements of Madden with something similar to the Euphoria engine.
