A nice little treat to play!

User Rating: 8 | Costume Quest PS3
Honestly, I was doubtful about this little game revolving around Halloween; even though I am a huge fan of the day. But when I picked up this game online, I was surprised of how well it is and how much I enjoy playing it. I am 23 years old, and this game looks to be for little children, but that is wrong. The child-like animations are awesome for the game, and the experience of Halloween seen through the eyes of children. So, let's dive into this Halloween Treat.

Story:
You are the new kids in town, who had just moved into this town. You and your twin sister or brother are going trick-or-treating together. So, you chose which one you want to be: Reynold or Wren.. With this decision, you play as one of them throughout the game. One the first door, your sister or brother is kidnapped by Grubbins. Goblin like monsters who are trying to steal all the candy in the neighbourhood. With this, you are trying to save your sister from the evil that is trying to consume all candy on Halloween. Sounds a bit childish, but it's actually a good story.

Gameplay:
This is where the game shines. It is easy to get use to the controls. You are going about trying to get rid of these grubbins, so you knock on doors, either to find a monster or a person. The monster you fight in battle and acquire EXP for leveling up and candy, which is the currency in the game. You can also explore the suburbs to find coffin chests that will help you create new costumes which have different powers and abilities in battle and while on the map, you can use some of them to find special places. Example: The robot rollerblades help you hit jumps over fences to acquire new items. Another aspect are the side-missions, you can do these to get EXP and Candy, some of them are hilarious such as the all Abraham Lincoln party.. lol I had a good kick out of this. You can also buy battle stamps which gives you abilities to help you in battle. For battles, it's just like Mario RPG, where you can hit a button to reduce the damage or increase physical attacks.

Graphics:
Overall, the graphics are spot on for the atmosphere of the game. All of the houses are decorated which is nice to see because I would have egged them in real life (What was I thinking). It's nice to see an active street of other children running around collecting treats and dressed up in their Halloween costumes. The best part about this game is the change from the typical robot costume, to the bad ass, transformer robot in the battles. Each costume looks nerdy and cute on the player walking the streets, but when you get into battles, they costumes morph into awesome representations of the costume... even the special attacks are awesome to watch! I know the graphics are nothing special, but they play well into this game.

Sound:
There is not much on the music department. You do get a battle theme, and you do get naturistic sound effects from outside such as owls and birds and what not, but it sounds good and awesome. The attacks in the game are spot on, sounding powerful and hilarious (regards to the Statue of Liberty Special).

Overall:
This is a solid, enjoyable game, especially since there are few good RPG's out there today. So if you were thinking about picking this one up, than I hope I have made your decision easier. Honestly, it's a lot of fun, and I picked it up when it was one sale for 8.00, which is a perfect price. Cheers.
