Adventures in jetpack flying.

User Rating: 4 | Dark Void X360
IMMERSION: The USP (unique selling point) in Dark Void is a jetpack. This one thing influences a lot of the developer's other choices. The visuals are impressive, aliens look alien, environments are interesting to wander through, and large. The story is generic science fiction, and will be instantly familiar to fans of Stargate or Star Trek, so the game gets no help there. The combat isn't unique, it's only the addition of the jetpack that makes it interesting, and then some enemies get jetpacks, to remind players that they have a jetpack and shouldn't just sit behind cover and fire. It's a personal judgement but the game is fun to play because the developer has chosen an entertaining plot device, jetpacks. (4/15) Immersion is closely tied to flying around with a jetpack, and nothing else.

DIFFICULTY: The game offers multiple difficulty options, none of which seem unfair. The game could offer more customisation, but it really isn't required. (7.5/15) Dark Void neither gets credit nor does it lose credit

LASTING APPEAL: As with immersion, the lasting appeal is centered around the jetpack. The player's ability to do interesting things with jetpacks will keep players playing. It's so subjective that this will be omitted from the score

OVERALL: 6/15 This score is terribly subjective, and should not be relied on as anything other than an endorsement for jetpacks in video games.
