Fire Emblem Engage doesn't break the mold of a traditional Fire Emblem game and that's ok

User Rating: 9 | Fire Emblem Engage NS

Fire Emblem is one of my all time favorite series so once I heard about Fire Emblem Engage releasing I was immediately excited. My hype only grew as I heard more information about it and this game definitely lived up to the hype.

Story: 9/10

While the Fire emblem game is pretty much a traditional fire emblem story, I still enjoyed it a lot and while moments of the story were a bit predictable, there were some moments that were very emotional and the characters reactions to things that happen only make the scenes that much better.

Score: 7/10

Fire Emblem has always had some great music and this game is no different but most of the previous games have had better music so it was slightly disappointing. Also the main theme that plays at the beginning of the game is completely terrible.

Characters/Character Development:8/10

Some of the characters look really cool and others look extremely weird or out of place. You are definitely able to make a great team of characters that you like regardless of what your preferences are. I thought it was weird though that there are so many characters that look extremely young. The game actually starts with two characters in charge of guarding the protagonist that appear to be about 10 years old which seemed unrealistic for someone who is supposedly an all important divine dragon. Regardless characters like Diamant and Zelkov are extremely awesome looking.

Graphics: 8/10

The game looks nice and similar in graphics to the last installment, Fire Emblem: Three Houses but nothing visually that is going to really impress you

Gameplay: 9.5/10

The Fire Emblem series has always had great strategic gameplay that makes you feel smart when you are able to overcome. Getting new characters and equipping them with awesome weapons and skills can make you feel like you've mastered the game and being able to overcome some of the most difficult bosses when you do is very satisfying.

Difficulty: 5/10 (0 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest). The game provides a good challenge toward the later parts of the game, but the ability to turn back turns with the time crystal can make it feel like a cheap redo. However there are some levels on which you really need to use the time crystal just to beat it.

Fun: 9.5/10

The series is addicting in the way that you always want to move just one more unit before you stop playing or see just one more turn play out. In that sense training and getting your characters to a new class is always worthwhile and rewarding when you are able to teach those points. Enough planning in a chapter can always make you feel like you have the upper edge too. At the end of the day, Fire Emblem Engage just works!
