-Naughty dog.
- Rockstar games.
-From software.
- Square enix.
I'll avoid young studios/ publishers who have only put out a single great game (majority Indie). In regards to current, and consistently high quality games this is my list:
Capcom (various studios)
Nintendo (various studios)
Larian Studios
Blue Point Games
Vanillaware
From Software
DotEmu (various studios)
*Usually enjoy Nippon Ichi Software but they've dropped in quality lately. Likewise with Bandai Namco, they've released some solid remasters however but it's not enough for me to consider them the best. I cannot praise Sony Studios outside BP much anymore because they don't make many games that I find interesting; Insomniac are pretty cool but only new game I like is the recent Ratchet & Clank Future and it's only a serviceable entry. Team Asobi we need to wait a few years and see what happens, I have high expectations.
Think a lot of developers/ publishers I follow or followed are hitting rock bottom right now, and are not worthy of praise. Bethesda and Platinum Games are fine examples.
Ubisoft is really falling behind, like what was the last good game it made in you're opinion? It used to have a lot of really fun games in the PS3 lifespan like AC, and Watch dogs....
We'll see how Suicide Squad turns out, but Rocksteady is somehow the only studio that ever got Batman right.
We'll see how fable turns out, but Playground made the best open world racers since NfS Most Wanted.
Id Software
Nintendo EPD Tokyo (All mainline Mario Games since Galaxy)
And if we are including dead studios; Westwood, Evolution, Amusement Vision, and Looking Glass.

Rereleasing Scott Pilgrim vs the World is the last form of praise I would give Ubisoft. And even then Ubisoft managed to mess it up locking content behind a service, multiplayer being broken, so I'd give them half a point for that.
Ubisoft have the bigger issue of being know for harassment and misconduct, no sign of it being resolved either. The company is run by clowns. Doesn't take anyone to know this means worker moral is down, and thus reflects on the mediocre/ poor products. It's not a good work environment, so staff only go in to get a paycheck and get out, leaving games soulless.
I give Bethesda a hard time but at least staff have got a more healthy day-to-day work place.
Haven't heard about Playdead, or Moon Studios, what cool games they made? I would like to check them out.
Westwood
I know a lot of people who loved Command and Conqueror. If you still crave the old RTS games? I recommend keeping one eye on Tempest Rising, it looks promising_
*On that note THQ Nordic are coming along as a company.
Oooh nice.
@mrbojangles25: Right.
I do hope Tempest Rising will be to Command & Conqueror what War for the Overworld was for Dungeon Keeper.
The only reason many these beloved RTS franchises died out is because big business (Electronic Arts) bought the IPs and shovelled them on phones as spewed garbage.
Some favourites of mine are:
- Capcom
- Nintendo
- SquareEnix
- FromSoftware
- Platinum Games
- Bandai Namco
- Arc System Works
- SNK
OP almost nailed the Big 4 "Mt. Rushmore" of game studios
