I've been a gamer for 18 years. What about you guys?
Well I believe i was 5 or 6 when I had an nintendo controller in my hands. In this case 34 years hehehe.
Probably over 30 years. Started in the early 1990's, with the NES (my friends, not mine).
Oh boy, here comes the nostalgia....
Mom went back to college in the early 90's, and we got our first computer as a result. Windows 4.1 iirc. No internet (that comes later! Weeeee!). Had one of those really loud, slow printe rs with the dotted paper edges you had to peel off.
Eventually got a "Compact Disk Module" "kit" that was a REALLY REALLY REALLY sweet deal. Basically this company Creative (I think they're still around making sound cards?) partnered with Lucasarts who, at the time, made some great games. That was sort of where I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally got into gaming.
So we get this CD drive and sound system for this old computer (I think we might have had Windows 95 at that point) and suddenly I have all these amazing games: Loom, Monkey Island, Tie Fighter, Sam and Max, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe (this game is why I love sims).
Then I reckon we got the world wide web courtesy of AOL in the late 90's at some time. Big ol' 36.6k dial up modem. Soon after I had Half-Life on my PC and oooh weee....if my gaming hobby started in the late 80's, took off in the mid-90s, then 1999 was the year that really sealed the deal.
Yup, been a pretty good life as far as gaming goes. And it's only getting better.
Technically my generation was the beginning of 3D graphics but I wouldn't really get into gaming till the 128-bit line of systems. Prior to that I only really liked DDR in the Arcades.
Played and grew to love a lot of classic games. But the first game I played was on the old Super Famicom (Kirby 3 is a game a photo has me 'playing' as a newborn baby) keep in mind Kirby 3 would be considered an old game when I was born.
My first proper gaming experience is from the sega mega drive been gaming all the way since then. Its amazing how far gaming has come.
Mid 90s via glomming onto my older brother's Game Gear and Mega Drive like a reprehensible barnacle. First gaming machine I owned myself was the chunky yellow original Game Boy.
First thing I remember playing is Mario/Duck Hunt on my cousin's NES. Probably around 6 at the time, so 35 years. Though maybe it was Dr. J vs Bird on my friend's Atari.
I was a pretty casual gamer though, until around the late 90's when I started getting summer jobs and had a fair ammount of disposable income.
I started gaming probably in the 2000's. I think I may have been seven years old when I first played the SNES or the GameBoy. I don't recall which came first. Played basically every day up until 2016, where I stopped gaming until roughly 2021. I really picked it back up within the past two years. So, in total, I would say around 18 years.
My earliest gaming memory is waking up and seeing my parents playing Super Mario Brothers on the NES. Must have been around 86-88. I know I was 3 or younger because we moved out of that house before I turned 4. It blew my mind. Probably around 35 years by this point... damn I'm getting old.. lol.
@DEVILinIRON: I’ve also been gaming since 1987. Maybe 1986 but you know what, that’s going on almost 40 years so it’s pretty tough to remember.
33 years. NES and 2600 were my first consoles. Over the last 16 years, I have slowly lost interest in new games. I think games now are by and large, terrible, and focus way too much on graphics. Nowadays I only play retro games, and new games made for retro consoles.
1996 ish… got Pokémon Blue and a Gameboy classic for Christmas. Hooked ever since. N64 next and on and on :)
Honestly I've been gaming since the Bill Clinton years ...the first thing I started with was the Gameboy ... my interest didn't really take off until Donkey Kong Country came the following year.
Now I moved to laptops and mobile devices for the the purpose of creating a single server without having the need too shill out for expensive components
