6 has a few positives, the jump and floor attack is fairly decent, as are sections of Leon's and Ada's campaigns. Mercenaries was also great but would be done better in Revs Raid modes.
The over the top nature was bad for the series, it was getting out of hand. 6 was the nail in the coffin. Granted the game is also a QTE Hell-Hole.
That's why Revelations was really the first attempt on bringing Survival Horror back into Capcoms franchise. I think the first Rev game was still a little tone deaf, Rev1 has its pros and committed fans but have covered why I feel the way I do for that game. End result was still a good game but still too action focused.
We get fans of all kinds from such a large and old series. So I'm not shocked some value the silly nature 5 & 6 was going for. To many it was probably the introduction to Resi. Heck I've seen Operation Raccoon fans.
However it cannot be denied that Resident Evil was losing its identity. Resident Evil is not Devil May Cry and I think Capcom needed to be reminded of that.
I was playing Revelations 2 not long ago cleaning up 100% achievements with a friend. Despite its issues Rev 2 is a game I think very highly of.
And yes I prefer Rev2 over the Ethan games in my opinion.
Granted playing Rev2 solo is frustrating, so does require a second person because the game was built for that in mind. Not defending this aspect as I wish it was handled better for solo play.
And I won't pretend the production value was anything other than low-budget. The episodic nature didn't please anyone either.
Rev 2 Raid however is just a better version of Mercenaries from the main numbered series. And the unlockables and difficulty sliders put Revelations 2 higher than a lot of the non-Remakes for me (judging the more recent games). For a long time if I wanted a good modern Resident Evil game Psycho Break/ The Evil Within was the only answer, it's sequel being absolute gold!
Rev 1 & 2 was really the beginning of the Resi series getting back on track, didn't have the budget to make the impact VII had, and they do feel way more experimental/ less polished. Rev 2 perhaps borrowed too much from TLoU for my liking during its campaign(s) however.
