Do you type/write different than the way you speak?

I know I do. I definitely re-read what I wrote before finalizing it, whereas when I speak I tend to just hold back then blurt out what I think or feel haha.

My word choice is also different, when I write I use certain words that I never use, for example:

  • thus
  • albeit

Hmmm those are the only words I can think of, but there's more!

How's about you guys?

Most definitely, I'm much more informal and funny in real life. Online I'm pretty proper and wooden, huge difference between how I post here and what I'm like if you meet me in person.

Hate to admit it, but I like to pick words that I'm somewhat familiar with and then look them up to be sure of their meaning. However, whenever I'm texting or am in a chat room I type more like I speak. It also takes me a lot longer to write than to speak, hahaha. It borders on the silly side.

No, I speak pretty close to how I type which makes me sound smarter/more authoritative than I am.

I don't use different words, but when I type an email I'm always concise and on point. Not always the case when I talk.

Yeah me too.

When I'm at work I always write my emails sort of stream-of-consciousness, whatever comes to mind, but I don't send it right away. Then I reread it and cut away anything extra. Then I make sure I didn't say anything dumb, I've learned that less is more.

Yes, I write much better than I speak. I'm trying to reconcile the two so I can become a better speaker.

I'm pretty articulate when I talk. But I probably say things like "eh" or "bud" when hanging out with friends cause that is how we do things up here in Canada

you'd almost have to ask a third party but I don't think there is a huge difference

I speak like I'm from the ghetto IRL.

Speak like a straight up nerd online.

I write in a more coherent and clear way compared to speaking. Usually I double and triple check what I've written before hitting that send button. I really shouldn't spend that much time when typing.

When typing I am very smart in word choice. Swiftkey keyboard on apknite gives me a lot of idioms. And you know, with emoji, they make everything different.

As a non native English speaker it comes natural that the choice of words become a bit more refined when typing because I can edit my message before sending it.

With that said, I find it boring to be formal anywhere else but in certain parts at work. So here at gamespot I will always stay informal because I’m real ?

I have this girl which stalks me. She consistently misspells the same words. This isnt phone error either as its been going on for over a decade.

Myself i use a phone for this site and turn autocorrect off, so without a doubt i misspell words or skip some punctuatuons, but i think it depends on the time of dai or where i am--direct sunlight it can be a total mess lol.

Yep, you have to be more careful with written words because it's much easier to be misinterpreted.

Speaking tends to be more casual.

I probably come across as rather hoity-toity and intellectual online!

Ooh, good idea.

Yeah, I think my vocabulary is better when written than in a normal conversation. Arguably, I frequently use exponentially more sophisticated terms on the world wide web, compared to in unadorned, commonplace discussion. Or something like that.

I ramble a lot more on the internet too, maybe, if I'm not wrong, possibly this is true...

But the good thing is you don't have to hear my voice :p

I type like I speak in english, but not in my native language. I'm usually more concerned with writing well in portuguese, because we swear a lot in Oporto. However, I don't have a need to in foreign languages, since I learn from writing and reading.
