Two persons are having a conversation, then one of the person replies by saying the expression, "You don't say....." What does it really mean and under what circumstances would people say that?
It can also be a sarcastic term for when people state the obvious or tell them information they already know. For example. Person A: "The sky is blue" Person B: "You don't say"

Or it could be in minor awe or disbelief: Person A: "The team in last place last year managed to win the cup this year" Person B: "You don't say"
