As much as it would please me to see the stupid-faced yapping ape race get their due comeuppance, this asteroid is going to safely pass Earth.

Ah well, maybe next time.

It will be something more pernicious. Like the pollinators all disappearing en-masse. As a child I always thought it would be some megalomaniac hitting the button, but now I see how it unfolds. With the whole race sleepwalking into oblivion. I'm just glad I grew up in the 8o's.

Lol, I was just telling my wife that I wish a comet or something would take us out. Will this be visible at all?

Been saying this for months.

Either that, or a Thanos snap.

I'm actually writing in Thanos when I vote. Won't vote for Trump and I can't bring myself to vote for Old Joe.

@mrbojangles25:

?

You're going to haul your backside just to stuff some piece of paper into a box, and you're basically going there to vote for noone? Seems like a waste of time and effort. Why not just not vote at all? Stay home and watch Seinfeld DVDs or something.

Probably not that size without a telescope.

It's our job to vote, our duty.

My own little pointless protest, too. I know it's dumb, but if you have to vote, you might as well vote for who you want.

Mitt Romney wrote in his wife's name, so it's not like there isn't precedent.

Your job? You don't get paid for it. Your duty? Who says? You're not Australia; you don't have compulsory voting.

A piece of paper in a box among millions of pieces of paper in thousands of boxes. Wow. Some protest. Nobody's going to care, just like nothing happened when whoever Mitt Romney is voted for his wife or whatever.

But, you know, your life, your decision. I just thought it seems like so much wasted effort over such an inconsequential act of protest, that's all.

Haha, yeah, maybe one day...Are we specifically talking about USA or just the world in general? Because most of those things are happening in USA except the corona which is happening globally.

Speaking of asteroids, I remembered reading an article that said an asteroid hit Russia that was a long time ago and hundreds of people got injured.

Don't worry about it, I was in your shoes a few years ago making the same argument, so I know what you're saying.

As for my job/duty/whatever to vote, there are many reasons (most sentimental, but some practical):

  • It's a founding principle of a democratic republic; people get a say. You do that by voting.
  • People from my generation and before have fought and died for that right, not to mention in other countries and so forth.
  • My government is, on paper, really awesome. I feel like to maintain that awesome you need to, for lack of a better term, follow the directions [for a good democracy].
  • If I don't vote, I don't get to complain about how much things suck.
  • I pay taxes, I should get a say in how they are used. Who uses them.
  • If I don't like how things are going, I can vote to change it. If I do like how things are going, I can vote to keep it that way.

As for the "protest" part of it, it's not about other people, about others seeing it. It's just for me :D

Ah, I think I see now. You still believe in "Democracy," you just don't like your choices, so you want to express your displeasure through the process you still believe in.

Fair enough. I see where we differ now.

Well, your post did say "long time ago," and I'm a bit of a history enthusiast, so I assumed.

Even an asteroid wouldn't kill as many people as the police do.
