I've got a Dell 2407FPW, and I can tell you that the picture quality is fantastic. If the 30" is similar, it'd be a good buy for sure.I can't really speak to any other brands, though. This is my first LCD monitor.
The current Dell 3007WFP is great. The WFP-HC will have a little faster response time and better color reproduction, but will also be more expensive. The 3007WFP can be had for around $1,200.
