I'm struggling with a fair amount of crashes on my PC I bought this year. Especially with modern more demanding games. I have installed WinDmg So I can read the crash logs. It seems to alwas be an C0000005-error (meaning it has to do with memory issues). Problem is that I don't really know what to do next.

I need help from somenone more knowledgeable but I don't know where to ask. I tried MS suport forums but they seem super dead. Since it's a Gamepass games I don't wanna use the Steam forums.

What are the best support resources for PC-gaming? Like where you can post a crash report and get som help on what to do etc?

Oh I might as well post the latest error log (get one per crash lol) if anyone has any good ideas of what to do next 😁.

@Sushiglutton: What are your PC specs? That is always a good place to start.

Also, is this a general problem? Or with one specific game?

Sorry you're having this issue; I'm no expert, but I've encountered my own share of issues over the past few decades of PC gaming. Maybe I can help.

@Sushiglutton:

You mean this one on the Xbox Forums? https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/a-plague-tale-requiem-keeps-crashing-c0000005/002d2d6f-8b0a-411f-a425-c35ca858e537

I replied to it (I'm Obsessive Power on the Xbox Forums). But, You need to provide more information such as your version of Windows and your actual hardware specs.

I can't see from that if you're running on a compatible gaming machine or a potato.

To be honest, these two forums are not the best for PC gaming hardware questions. You'll get much better responses from either the Steam Forums or the Linus Tech Tips hardware forums. Both of which are much more active.

@Bond007uk:

Thanks for your replies. I posted the specs in the MS foprum thread just now and also below.

@mrbojangles25: I now struggle witj A Plague Tale, but had the same issues with Deathloop. It kept crashing. So I put everything at super low and was able to get through the game without more crashes. But it feels stupid to buy a 3070 and then put everything at low lol.

The error code c0000005 was the same for Deathloop.

As in my reply on the Xbox forums, a look on Google suggests it's an access violation error.

If you only get this error in Game Pass games but not other games from Steam, it maybe an issue with Windows itself or some other application/s running in the background. An antivirus might try to check one of the encrypted game pass folders and return such an error for example.

@Sushiglutton:

Corrupt or conflicting graphics drivers are probably the most common cause of crashes. I recommend doing a fresh install of your graphics drivers. Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in safe mode to completely remove your existing drivers, reboot and then install the latest drivers. Always use clean installation when installing drivers as this resets your settings to avoid conflicts. Then go back into Nvidia Control Panel and adjust things to your liking. Make sure to use Prefer Maximum Performance under Power Management Mode (under Manage My 3D settings).

Update BIOS if you haven't done before it's the core of the PC, then check on Windows updates and download latest Nvidia driver for your GPU from their site.

Do windows updates couple of times with restarts because it doesn't install everything in one go.

From what you say if you lower the graphics settings and you do not get any crashes can be one of the following causes:

A) At high graphics either your GPU or CPU are getting overheated

B) At high graphics your PSU fails to deliver enough power and can cause crashes for the whole system

But before jumping to conclusion I recommend to check if everything including BIOS is updated.

So I shipped my PC back to the retailer (pre-built so I had warranty). Apparently the pins to the CPU had poor connection and there was also problem with the cooling. So they removed the CPU and applied new cooling paste and stuck it back in. I can't believe it, but now the PC works (got it back today)

I would never in a billion years guessed it was a CPU issue based on the error logs. I guess you can't go much by them. Anyway, a happy end it seems for now :)!
