Im looking into buying a ULTIMATE performance gaming pc, and im wondering what a good manufacturer to purchase from would be. I consider myself tech savvy but i want my investment to last a while, i dont want to screw something up building it myself and waste all the money. I have quite a high budget. (Up to 12000?)
Looking at dual 8800 GTX's to be exact. Just the top of the line. Ive looked on alienware, voodoo, and falcon west. I've marked off voodoo as i found them rediculously expensive, but alienware and falon west seem alright.

Your opinions?

(Note: I dont want to be called a rich bastard, so please refrain from calling me rich, im just really lucky and i dont want to go into it)

Dell recently bought alienware so if you check dell they have the I believe it's called xps 720 with water cooled, over clocked processor which can probably rival any other computer maker. It would probably only be about 6000 or a bit more depending on what else you add to it. But I assume it's some of the highest possible computers you can get.

I've heard bad things about dell though. Them forcing you to buy dell ram? Yuck. They do make good monitors though, which i am also planning on buying.

$12,000? Snap... Well I always have envied Falcon Northwest systems - they really do a helluva job on assembling systems together. I do strongly suggest you dabble into building your own. But god da.... with that chunk of money I'd start assembling an Miata autocross car!

Also, like i said i am quite tech savvy, so i will be able to REPLACE parts, i just dont trust myself building a whole pc. For example the pc i have now is a **** HP..but ive upgraded it quite a bit. 256 ram to 1 gb, geforce 4 to 6 etc.

Honestly, I recommend www.cyberpowerpc.com . They manufacture a great PC, and save you some money. I've found that in Alienware and Falcon etc., you pay a lot just for the name.

Mine is old and outdated now, but it performed perfectly when I got it. It still does, it just isn't up to par now, with the rapid pace of technology. I wanted mine to be really custom, and they offered that. LED fans, cathode ray tubes, cool cases. I would've built my own, had I known how to do it. I still want to some day.

they all use pretty much the same parts, you can go with falcon NW, vodoopc and alienware as the "boutique" pc builders. But i build my own. edit: 12,000 is a waste for something that will be obsolete by the time you get it.

Cyberpowerpc seems nice and on the cheaper side. Falcon northwest is expensive but seem to be very well made computers. Alienware seems to be in the middle. Voodoo also looks quite good actually...ahhh..im also leaning towards the pre built pcs because of the warrantys and such...

Also, for the optimal computer you want (super high end) water cooling can be very hazardous if you build the computer yourself. You never know what'll leak or malfunction. Just look around for prices on sli 8800gtx's pre built computers with the highest processor speeds around and judge from there.

How much do you think building one of these 12000 pre built ones on my own would be you guys? Im actually not so worried about putting the peices together, im afraid i wont buy the right case...something wont fit..installing liquid cooling etc. I guess i just want a doomsday computer...haha i never thought id be here asking for advice on 12000 dollar computers..

I would stick with a prebuilt, if your afraid then just don't try it. Get something from wherever, basically dell is an alienware computer since it's their company now too. Just make sure your going to want probably an extended warranty, so if something leaks or breaks they will fix it all for you. When it comes down to it, all the computers are going to be the same basically quad core, overclocked dual 8800gtxs and watercooling. It is just up to you where and how much you want to spend the money to.

All they are, is basically an alienware computer with the dell logo on it now for the gaming rigs. They bought alienware to the best of my knowledge and that is why they now have custom made gaming machines that are actually something. You could check out their 710 h20 thing. I believe you could probably get your "12000$" computer for only about 6-8k from them and have enough for whatever else you want. Overclocked, water cooling and just get a big extended warranty so you won't have to worry.

Vodoo seems best, ask alpha.
Anyway, Dell dont have the best quality parts in there machine. As for example, they still only have 667Mhz of rams and thats there best and there probably made by samsung.

Alienware ALX is the best. Falcon is pretty good too and cheaper than Alienware. You should get some PC magazine and do some research.
