Hey guys,

I need a gaming laptop. I have no idea what to get. I was thinking Alienware, but that seems a little expensive. Any suggestions? Cheers

After looking around this sager 15.6" laptop looks like a fantastic buy better then the base m14x same gpu and cpu but superior screen resolution and size and more ram and almost $230 cheaper you can customize to add quad core i7 ivy bridge for only $70 more and just as good as the higher end m14x configuration for way less money and you get a bigger higher quality 1080p screen as well!

Well if it's going to be a lappy I'd go Alienware :) Yes it is expensive, but a gaming lappy is going to cost you more than gaming desktop.

dont be an idiot.

dont buy a gaming laptop.

there is no such thing.

gaming is about the experience. so

a: you need to be able to concentrate on it.

b: you need a large screen

c: you need to be comfortable

d: you need good sound

e: you need good mouse and keyboard

f: you want something powerful and the more fluid a game can be the more enjoyment you will get

d: your system needs to be able to disperse heat, something all laptops have a problem with. especially after 6 months of dust

and then, if you dont care about all of that, please consider:

a:everything in your laptop has a lifespan of 2 years, after which your money is completely wasted. as you wont be able to upgrade sufficiently.

b: the case you pay for in a laptop gets thrown away

c: the keyboard gets thrown away

d: the touch pad gets thrown away

e: the motherboard gets thrown away

f: the power supply gets thrown away

g: the monitor gets thrown away

h: cpu thrown away

i: ram thrown away

j: hard drives, thrown away

k: cd/dvd drives thrown away

with a desktop, when things are a little out of date, you can keep almost all of these components and just buy a new motherboard, or cpu, or graphics card etc. making desktops better for the world and better for your pocket.

also consider

a: laptop is easy to steal

b: a gaming laptop will be targeted especially to steal

c: you will look like a nerdy rich kid

have i talked you out of it yet??

can someone STICKY THIS POST please?? because every day there is someone asking about a "gaming laptop", and another person crying that their new "gaming laptop" performs like crap, overheats, was a waste of money. it really annoys me and ever gamer/techie really knows that gaming laptops are overpriced peices of crap that no one should be looking at buying.

thanks

I don't think a techie would appreciate your blanket statement about every gaming laptop ever made. Sure desktops are superior for gaming but YOU CAN'T BRING THEM PLACES. That's why people want laptops. As long as they realize that the laptop will be expensive, fairly heavy, and won't be able to max all games (unless it's a massive 17" machine), they'll be fine. I'd recommend looking at the new Lenovo Y580. I'm considering it (especially with my employee discount). It'll be around $1100 and have a 1080p screen, GTX660 2GB GPU, 8 GB of ram, and an i7. Also get a cooling pad for long gaming sessions.

Asus G75VM Asus G55VM Msi GT60 Msi GT70 Asus gaming laptops seems to have a more effective and quiet cooling system. The two msi models can support up to32 GB memory,While Asus laptops support up to 16 GB.

Only idiot here is you, I've been a desktop gamer since I started PC games and got myself an Asus g75vw-ts72 now I hardly use the desktop , desktops are overrated if you can run a game fine on a laptop. Besides my desktop cost way more than my laptop not to mention the laptop takes up barely any space in comparison. When I have a guest over it's an extra PC capable of gaming without having to keep another tower around. Also only an idiot would expect a laptop to dissipate heat as well as a desktop can. Just think for a second, I know it's hard, but maybe TC has a desktop and wants the laptop as a portable machine? I would have responded point by point but the more I read what you wrote the more my head hurts. TC go with MSI, Sager, or Asus with at least a nvidia 660m (or equivalent), i7 (you'll want the quad), and 8-16gb ram and you'll be set. My asus with a 670m takes care of all my gaming needs.
