I don't think there's much sense in upgrading this machine, outside of some storage upgrades maybe.

You could always upgrade everything CPU to the new 10700K which will force you to upgrade MOBO and RAM to DDR4.

1070 is pretty good but if you're gaming at 2K you could go with 3070 or maybe 3080 for future proofing.

You could always upgrade your GPU.

Ride that CPU until it dies. Or just build a whole new PC, but I don't think you'd be gaining much unless you're trying to get super-high frame rates. 4.0GHz boost is still pretty fast.

The whole rig is in need of a upgrade.

With that said. What kind of games are you playing, anything you are looking forward to? Gaming at 1080 or higher res?

You're sort of in a difficult position because your components are old, but also perfectly sufficient for 1080p gaming (as far as I can tell).

As others have asked, what kind of gaming do you enjoy?

So you need to either wait a little longer and save money for a whole new build, or....I don't know.

I was in your shoes last year, went with a whole new build.

I would upgrade to a new to a new CPU/Motherboard and I would go with the coming AMD 5 series the 5600X, throw in 16GB DDR4 and a 1TB m.2 NVME.

Your GPU will get a healthy boost in stability in framerates at 1080p with a CPU upgrade.

I wouldn't bother upgrading GPU right now, I would wait for the new cards to come out at the i.e the 3060 or the AMD 6600XT when they come out.

So yeah CPU/MOBO/RAM/NVME upgrade.

Technically its not even a upgrade your buying a new PC but re-using case/PSU and GPU.
