Why does Windows hate multiple monitors so much?

When I disable one of the monitors through Display Settings or turn off one of the monitors or the TV, Windows 10 keeps trying to discover it again, lagging badly and interfering with what I'm doing.

Except when I select "Second screen (my TV) only." Then it doesn't care, doesn't try to activate the other screens again.

Sounds like an issue with either the monitor or your graphics card. Maybe it is sensing power from the monitor and trying to connect to it.

I don't think feeding a small amount of power is a flaw. It's Windows' fault. Or the Nvidia software. Probably Windows.

Sounds like a bug.

I know that by turning my second monitor on and switching around with inputs, my PC will sometimes behave as if the monitor is active as a second screen, while the screen is outputting from another source. PC going to into sleep mode might also be required for this to happen. I don't remember, it's been a long time since I experienced it.

So no workaround? I'm stuck having to leave the displays on and wasting power and possibly risking burn in?

Try using the Windows Projector (Windows key + P) to swap monitors instead of doing it through NVCP.

No, it doesn't stay on "PC screen only." Keeps trying to go back and forth. "Second screen only" stays. Windows key + P is how I normally switch.

Sounds like yet another in an endless string of inconvenieces and frustrations caused by technology assuming that it knows what you want, and acting automatically. I hate it so much. I have to disconnect the HDMI cable connecting my tv to the PS4, or else the PS4 turns itself on when I turn on the TV.

Bravia Sync (Sony's version of CEC) on my TV and CEC on my receiver. My issue is resolved. Thank you so much.

@the_bi99man: Yup, that's just like when my TV turns itself on because my son docked his switch to charge it. As if I can't press the power button on the TV remote by myself.

It's always issue with monitors and TVs trying to connect you to a working source of input.

Maybe in the future they'll put a mic inside monitors and TVs and you'll be able to navigate through voice commands.
