I have been using Vista Business RTM since early November and so far my experience is that I am loving Vista itself but I find my self very disappointed with Nvidia. I couldn't come back from my monitor going into sleep mode and I couldn't start a game without getting the same unrecoverable display corruption. This was true for all 7900GT from what I have read. It took them 2 and a half months to fix this (sorta, still can happen but rare).

However, Aero is sleek and some of the new explorer layout is nice. Updating is streamlined and everything has been working fine for me (Nvidia aside). Vista x86 is slower than XP x86 but this has been true of previous new versions of Windows so I am sure it will continue to improve. On a side note x64 Vista was running about 35% faster than XP 64 bit in some quick game benchmarks I did (HL2, Oblivion, NWN2).

Pros:
Awesome interface, both aesthetically and functionally.
Quite a few minor, yet nifty, new features that make things less of a hassle.
Despite having just been launched, no major problems.

Cons:
Nvidia drivers still aren't 100% ready, but they'll work well enough.
Some older programs may have difficulty running.

I'm running Vista Home Premium, and I'm happy with it.

Highs:
  • Aero
  • Security features (so far)
  • It's stable - no random crashes yet
  • Any security features you find annoying can be turned off
Lows:
  • Uses more system resources, which could be an issue if you don`t have a fast machine
  • Driver support still isn`t great; everything works ok so far, but ok is all. nVidia`s nTune for example, isn`t working too well - ran it yesterday and it decided that my CPU shouldn`t be overclocked at all, on a 680i motherboard. I`m sure this stuff will be tweaked soon though
  • Pricey upgrade if you already have an OS
  • DX10 isn`t used yet (once Crysis and other new games come out this will become a high point, not a low one)
Anyhow that`s my two cents. I have no major problems with it so far.
