Poll Are "From Software" producers of the best DLC? (13 votes)

aye 38%
Nah 62%

Ignoring pc: since it has superior expansion packs.

In this day of nickle and dimeying in which expansion packs have went from 10+ hour experienced to selling (what is) mods (such as skins and maps) a 14 year old could produce at the weekend in the the good old 90's - would we agree From Software are currently the best "DLC" makers when we talk about console centric developers?

Having they been selling maps and skins and items?

Sounds shitty.

The interesting (and arguably innovative) aspect about the DLC is that it directly changes the core game. In a very clever and creative manner.

This is true. Although arguably much of the content is recycled: it still has a mass chunk of content even without the DLC (which in itself is longer than most full games).

Very exciting dragon battle that makes Skyrim's look like shit.

Dark Souis is a video game that attempts to tell a story through a video game narrative. Deliberately obtuse, magical and mysterious. A world with a story already told: needing healed.

Last Of US a wannabe Hollywood movie with 4 hours game-play. Waste of time.

Expansion packs are "dlc". It's just a different means to get the content.

The concept behind it: rather than large content (as if this needs explained to anyone) has been broken down into the most cost effective: least manpower pieces of shit they can throw out. To the point people are now paying for literally "nothing".

No, that title still lies with Blizzard. To this day, Brood War still stands as one of the greatest expansion packs of all time.

DS 2's all DLC rocks, specially Crown of the ivory tower, Weapons degrading fast, enemies more aggressive compared to vanilla game and to add more pleasure invisible enemies and tiger bosses. Have played all the DLC's in Dark souls 2 and love it, love it , love it :)

No one can top Blizzard in that department. Blizzard's expansion packs are basically full games and they spend more time on expansions that most devs do on their games.

They basically have full retail priced game price tags well. More: infact.

I liked from software before the souls games. They're all about the nickel and diming in armored core.

The concept behind it: rather than large content (as if this needs explained to anyone) has been broken down into the most cost effective: least manpower pieces of shit they can throw out. To the point people are now paying for literally "nothing".

In theory, expansions pack can be delivered in the form of a DLC. The distinction lies in the manner things are and were done. Expansion packs existed at a time when DLCs weren't staple, and as such, had to be delivered via retail. In order to justify the logistics of shipping it to the retailer, the game had to be at least 30 dollars. And to justify that 30 dollar asking price, the game had to be at least 40-50% the length of the main game.

So the classical 'perception' of an expansion pack is that it will give about half of whatever you got from the main game. Many DLCs nowadays are nothing more than just 'features' piggy backing on the main game. There's a huge distinction between an 'expansion' and mere 'features'. And I think that if a developer dares to even use the term 'expansion', the game must conform to what gamers perceive an expansion to be....in classical terms.

Not full priced. Wings of liberty on launch was 60 bucks. Heart of the swarm was 40 bucks. Offers as much gameplay time as wings of liberty.

I don't understand why its called dlc on steam? what other sort of content do you provide? :P

I agree that expansion packs are obviously better though, but I think From Software's additional content could probably be considered an expansion? I haven't bothered with the sequel yet but in the first it blended in with the rest of the game and expanded upon the game world. Semantics I guess.

Everyone are wrong. Everyone asks price for few new maps.

Valve gave 100 new maps, new weapons, new hats, new sound, new materials, new map editor, updates, better graphics update, new items, everything else for FREE and you saying from software who ask 10 dollar for 1 new map is best dlc gaver? NO WAY
