Genshin Impact estimated to be the highest first year gaming revenue of all time at 2.5 - 3.7 billion USD
One sad list… why make good games when you just can make glorified mobile game with loot boxes and cash in!
Imagine for a second if this was an M rated game with a bunch of nudity in it. 100% of weebs would be all over it. Free idea for Genshin2. Thank me later, China.
Genshin Impact is without a doubt the most popular Chines game on the PC and hey, I'm happy it's doing well too. I really hope to see Genshin Impact get's an Anime adaption in the future cause it's Anime worthy:
I tried it, but definitely not for me.
To be fair, I am not a gacha fan myself, but the visuals are good and the game is well made. It is hard to believe this is mobile friendly and the amount of content early on is great IMO. I think the game is fine as it is free after all and the modeling and animation is top-notch even as a PC game. This is as close to getting BOTW MMO as we're ever gonna get lol.
This is the first I have ever heard of this game.
3 billion in its first year is absolutely insane though.
Probably most of that is in China. I'm a reminded of how people acted like Wondering Earth making $700 million in China was reason to watch it (**shit movie BTW**). Anyhow, are we going to start celebrating games for their achievements in aggressive monetization? Man how times have changed.
What is even the gameplay loop in this game? All i see is them adding 4-13 years old children that don't wear appropriate clothing. And i've heard a streamer spent over 250k (and he is actually dumb enough to do it, so i believe it) on this shit game. Imagine spending 250.000.00 instead of 60.00. This is dumb as shit.

I honestly don't know why people keep bring this up? You either like it or not😑

Who brings it up? I was curious about my original question, and i did hear a twitch streamer spending over 250k in one game.

Genshin Impact reaches $3 billion in player spending on iOS and Android
Gross revenue breakdown on mobile devices:
It's not at all comparable to Chinese movies like The Wandering Earth which only ever do well in China. Genshin Impact is the first genuine global smash hit video game to come out of China.
Its international success can partly be attributed to it appearing Japanese. It's a Zelda BOTW clone with a Japanese name, anime characters and gacha mechanics. It's a heavily Japanese-inspired game developed in China. Japanese games have a much wider global appeal than Chinese games, so Genshin was able to break that "Great Wall" by making itself appear Japanese rather than Chinese.
Wow, Animal Crossing just straight beast mode.
You should get your ass into Genshin. I see you getting heavily addicted, and that's very good tbh.
@hardwenzen: No thanks, its not made by Nintendo, so ill pass.
But it looks like a Nintendo made game. I think you can get over that, no? It gives you something to play until BOTW2.
image is spot on for meme comment.

Those are some very impressive numbers.
Is the Fortnite figure accurate? Because BattleRoyale was patched in later in Fortnite which was originally quite a different game.
Just what I was thinking as well. Fortnite started as quite the dud. And only got huge because of Battle Royale.
Edit: I see, BR came out way sooner than I recall.

The gameplay loop is mostly swapping between characters to apply elemental combos.
