"Not because the boy cries and the girl cries, there it is, the program, the Nintendo so that she does not cry, and there the children are watching the Nintendo for hours, now violent games that should not be watched by children, not because she is crying and there it goes, give her the Nintendo so that she stops crying and also so that I can do my things, and what is the child watching? And who are the people who work on these programs, these contents? What is their conception of life? They are geniuses, they are very intelligent, but the person who created the atomic bomb was also very intelligent", said the Mexican President.

"Now that I return to Mexico City, we are going to make known a case of child kidnappings that were carried out through these games that are executed without knowing who they are playing with, so it is forbidden to prohibit, but we can talk about these issues," he commented.

Um, this sounds like that one kook that linked ALL anime to porn. Not making that up.

Yep, all the creators fault for these crimes. *eye roll*

Pretty sure he was referring to all videogames but "Nintendo" is synonymous as the term for videogames for many casuals. I doubt any president knows the ins and outs of industry terminology.

That said, his concern is valid. It's why I keep the Switch offline and my kids aren't allowed to have social media. Online interactions are often toxic and they don't need to be bombarded by a**holes regularly.

I apologize for him. Is like our own Donald Trump but less funny (at least for us).

@Telekill: This makes the most sense. "Nintendo" is just a generic term used by boomers to refer to all video games.

Ah, I remember that one ... sadly, he was just barely scratching the surface.

While I definitely get the impression this guy is nuts, the quote reads like some nuance was lost in translation.

This is the kind of posturing you have to do when you're too scared and or corrupt to take on the vast cartels that plague your nation. Deflect!

So the cartels are kidnapping children, and the Mexican president's response is to attack a company that doesn't even allow online chat between players?

I dare him to confront the Catholic Church about the threat they pose to children.

I'm from Mexico, and yes he is using Nintendo as a term for videogames in general; it was part of a bigger speech in which he says that the parents ignore the fact of with whom their children are interacting in the internet, particularly social networks, but even in things considered toys (videogames), there have been cases where kids are convinced to go to a certain places to be kidnapped.
