So its 2023 almost and Deus Ex is still greatest game ever?

So almost 2023. 23 years later and this game remain unchained. I mean holy crap.

with all recent GOTY nomination, with all critics and mainstream media praise shit like GOW a movie game. I look back to my fav game of all time and this game still not surpassed. the game was not surpassed by Half life 2 but toe to toe, the game was almost surpassed by STALKER in 2007 but still something that make Deus Ex greater. and now it doesnot even surpassed by my baby (Doom and Eternal) not by longshot.

this is why immersive sim is gaming best genre. the game had everything and still something didnot surpassed. its storytelling among best, its genius level design, its pacing and longevity.

this is still 11/10 game.

so my friend, do you think this game will ever be surpassed? or else mainstream media will forever praise movie games?

Was Deus Ex even the greatest game of its year? Majora’s Mask, THPS2, Baldur’s Gate II and Diablo II all mean DX would be lucky to land in the Top Five.

System Shock 2 is better than Deus Ex.

both are equal.

System shock 2 have better level design. plus it started off amazing but end levels were weak point. Deus Ex end level were incredible strong points.

although both are 2 of my fav games of all time anyways.

I appreciate its ambitious and influence, but as a game think there were a lot of better games even at the time.

I love Deus Ex's narrative so much, but its gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. The systems surrounding the gameplay is pretty good, however. Good thing there are mods that enhances the gameplay.

As for the best game, nah. There's no objectively best game out there, just the best game for you.

It set some good standards for it's subgenre that are appreciated, but it's sure as shit no timeless masterpiece. Game's ugly and plays like junk.

Definitely one of the best games for the time.

I am going to say doubtful but maybe someday they'll remaster/remake it and I'll finally see the light.

Spector has distanced himself from the game and for good reason for it basically delving in vaccination conspiracy theories.

It should not be remade, the conspiracy elements of the game are too problematic today.

Deus Ex is one of the greatest games ever made. But it's not the greatest game ever made in 2023 because it's never been the greatest game ever made.

It's not even 1/3 of the greatest game ever made, the Witcher 3.

Can't really agree to that. In my opinion, Deus Ex went downhill post Ocean Lab mission, but even the other levels after leaving Paris are a bit of a slog.

I think it's still my fav game of all time too..though i haven't played it in a long long..LONG..time.

I would struggle to recommend it to someone who hasn't played it before though. Or if i did i would also wave my arms alot and say "it's 22 years old though!".

A proper remake would be great. There are parts of the game that could do with a complete overhaul. The start is poor and the last couple of areas are very meh. I think Ion Storm even said that the end was very rushed.

They reached for the stars with the level of interactivity in the game but only hit the moon due to the hardware available at the time. With todays hardware they could go much further and that would be very cool to see too. Also being able to properly render and animate a long coat (that you can't see most of the time).....critical! :P.

And develop more on the choice/consequence stuff. DE was a pioneer in that area....making the player question their behaviour. But it only did that up to around Paris then kinda stopped. Or seriously paired it back anyway from what i remember.

But the story, the setting, the RPG systems etc....are all excellent.

It being the best game the year it released is subjective. A lot of great games came out that year. Saying it is the greatest game of all time is something I cannot agree on. There have been too many stellar games that have released to put just one at the top of the heap.

Nope! That would be HL2 or HL1. Literally can't put the game down once started playing it and that was during my exam days. No other game ever grabbed my attention like that, Commandos 2/3 came close.

Deus Ex is better because more contents and is immersive sim but Half life is toe to toe.

but these 4. Deus Ex, System shock 2, STALKER and Half life 2 are 4 of greatest game I have ever played.

For how cutting-edge Half-Life was, it sure ran well. I remember it running well on my crappy AMD Sempron and GeForce 6600.

@ghosts4ever: I never liked deus ex that much, I preferred doom eternal over it. You are correct about the main stream media pushing for the movie games though. Hopefully the industry pushes back against that nonsense.
