Sony "exploring the mobile market with some wonderful PlayStation franchises"

'Sony has confirmed its big PlayStation push into mobile gaming, saying: "please stay tuned."

In April, a job advertisement for Head of Mobile, PlayStation Studios, SIE, revealed plans for the successful candidate to "focus on successfully adapting PlayStation's most popular franchises for mobile".

"You will be responsible for building and scaling a team of mobile leaders and will serve as the Head of this new business unit within PlayStation Studios," it read (the job is no longer open).

Now, as part of a corporate strategy meeting held today, 26th May, Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed the plans, saying: "We have been thinking about how players enjoy our content and have had some early success with experimenting with mobile games and apps to provide more choice to gamers.

"Mobile is just one of the areas we are exploring to reach millions of gamers beyond our platforms. PlayStation has a huge catalog of diverse first-party IP that can transition to smartphone gaming and complement our AAA games or live service games. We are exploring the mobile market with some wonderful PlayStation franchises so please stay tuned."

Well, they called predicted the death of console gaming more than a year ago, cows are just slow to adapt as usual.

This is great, they just need to integrate the sdd tech on mobile and it's done.

I hate the mobile market for the most part as I don't like touch screen for gaming. I don't anticipate their regular releases. I did get pretty far on that Uncharted game but it was just a simple puzzle game loosely based on the series. The best part of it was the interaction it had with Uncharted 4 multiplayer where you could unlock points to send to your PS4 game to unlock multiplayer items. Other than that, it could have been almost any other characters.

Another win for Sony and mobiles. 😎

Sony should let sony music do mobile games considering their experties, they are very successful at that, keep console PlayStation devs out of it. Some of sony music mobile titles is one of highest grossing ever in japan (or in the world, idk).

If they can make $1 billion a year, why couldn't PlayStation do the same?

Get over it your precious Sony is going to be pouring huge amount of resources into Mobile gaming as stated in the article and they will be putting their most important PlayStation developers on those projects which will certainly divert resources from first-party PlayStation Focused games. This is great and I'm happy that this is happening. Hopefully over time Microsoft will be able to chip away at sony's market share.

It almost sounds as if you are concerned about Sony focusing on profit rather than your gaming well being. They are going split their gaming resources to venture into this market. They can potentially make more money from this diversification than many of the investments in which they paid for timed exclusivity. This is going to be an interesting change of pace. 😈

Us, cows, we're worried that our AAA exclusives will drop down to AA exclusives. Nobody wants that, so i understand his concerns.

I'll just sit back and watch how mobile gaming is now cool.

i don't think i've ever played a mobile game but actually i could see myself on like a train journey, headphones on, phone in landscape playing something like until dawn. very little microtransaction potential though so unlikely

Halo and gears had mobile games on phones too gears pop and halo something

The game I play most right now and with many of my friends is genshin impact, so the term mobile game can be pretty broad. An original beafy mobile game can be great if done right. I don't see any of their current ips transferring very well into something that isn't a cash-grab so i really hope they make something that hasn't been done before.
