GameSpot's Video Game of the Year, Nominees
 
 
Simply put, of the more than 100 award categories featured in GameSpot's Best and Worst of 2002, this category is the single biggest and most important, and in some ways, it's the most controversial. It is here that we put all the current video game platforms in direct competition against each other and choose from all the hundreds of games released for each of these impressive systems just five nominees to be considered for GameSpot's Video Game of the Year award. These games are simply the best of the best--the ones we'll look back on years from now to remember just how great a year in gaming we had in 2002.
